Minna Feuerbacher was born on March 15, 1889 in Austin, Texas. Minna lived in Austin until her family moved to Dripping Springs and Oak Hill, Texas around 1893. In 1895 she and her family moved to a farm on Dry Creek near Del Valle, southeast of Austin. She lived on this farm until she met and married Albert Schroeder on November 17, 1906. Albert was born in Hamburg, Germany on March 10, 1882. Fifteen or sixteen years later he and his sister were living in Taylor, Texas with their uncle. It was in Taylor that his sister met with a tragic death, being that her clothes were ignited and before the fire could be extinguished, she was burned to death. After his sister's death he moved to Colton, Texas and became a farmer. It was at this time that he met Minna, probably at the German Church or the numerous dance halls in the community (such as Dutch Hall, Elm Grove and others). On the night that they were married, they had a big house dance at Minna's home and it is said that Grandpa had to repaint the floor as all the paint was worn off in a circle by the pattern of the dancers. After they were married they moved to Karnes City, Texas where he was a salesman for J.R. Watkins Company. It was in Karnes City that their two daughters were born and also in Karnes City that Aunt Minna met her untimely death of an infection at the age of 23 years, 11 months on February 6, 1913. Aunt Minna, as far as is known, has the distinction of having the only tombstone in the family written in German: “Minna Schroeder, geb Marz 18, 1889 - gest. Feb 6, 1913”. She is buried in Austin, Texas and had two daughters age 3 ˝ and 5 ˝ years old. Two and one-half years later, Albert married Charlotte Rex who became a wonderful step-mother for his daughters. Uncle Albert and Aunt Lottie moved to Fashing, Texas where he farmed and built a store. At this time the store, or town, had no name, but Uncle Albert was appointed Post Master and Washington, D.C. requested that the place have a name. Several names were submitted but the name from a tobacco can, “Fashon” was accepted by the P.O. Department. However, the spelling was changed to “Fashing”. To Aunt Minna and Uncle Albert were born two daughters.
