Frank Clark was naturalized before 1869; Need to find out when and where he was naturalized.14 Note by Candice C. Allmand: My father, Reuben Floyd Clark, often told my sister Cathy Ann "Cookie" Clark, that his grandfather, Frank Clark was buried in New Hope Cemetery, Leander, Williamson County, Texas and showed her the grave marked with an upright triangular shaped native stone that had "Dad" carved into it. He said that the grave had been moved from the Simpson Cemetery on Sandy Creek about 1936-37 when the Marshall Ford Dam was completed across the Colorado River (creating Lake Travis) and flooded the family cemetery. Several unknown Simpson children's graves and the grave of Eugenia "Jinie" Simpson Marshall were moved to New Hope at the same time. Cookie and I became concerned that after we were gone, there would be no family members left who knew that the grave marked simply "Dad" was Frank Clark. In 2004, 100 years after his death, we ordered the granite stone for his grave. When it was set, we decided to move the "Dad" stone to mark the foot of the grave. To our great surprise and delight, when the old stone was dug up, beneath the surface was "Clark" carved into the stone. The rock had said "Dad Clark" all along, but the "Clark" had been covered with dirt probably for at least 50 years. We reset the old stone a bit higher so it could be read in full and placed the new one September 17, 2004.

When reading about early Texas settlers like Jacob, Levi & Martin T Pruitt, John B Trenary and maybe William H. Middleton, it will help to learn about the colonization and land distribution in Spanish Texas, Mexican Texas and the Republic of Texas. Click here to read about the (settlement of Texas) Samuel Savage (step-father) was appointed guardian of William H Middleton and paid bond of $4000. He was charged to "handsomely and carefully bring up" and provide him with "necessary meat, drinks, washing, lodging and apparel of wearing according to his decree". Samuel Savage was to be his guardian and tutor to William Middleton and defend him fro "hurt of body, loss of goods and land so far as in proven birth".12 On October 28, 1823, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, William Middleton received $3,585 from Samuel Savage, the full of his estate from his father, Hugh T Middledon. This represented all the real and personal estate of Hugh T Middledon, Jr. at the time of his death and the procedes of two tracts of land in Edgefield District South Carolina. One tract contained 117 acres and the other 527 acres. Also a lot of land in Georgia above the city of Augusta in Springfield. William was of full legal age and signed that this settles all matters relative to his interest inn his father's estate.13 William H. Middleton was listed in Cherokee County, Texas on the 1846 Republic of Texas Poll Lists which were used as the official census when the Republic became a state that year.14

[S24] Kaye Wykoff, personnel conclusions, based on other research, knowledge or other known information or dates: The date & location of marriage is based on the 1850 census showing the birth of their first child in Georgia in 1830. When William came of age in 1823, he received his inheritance from his father. It included a large amount of land in Georgia above the city of Augusta in Springfield. This indicates that he probably settled on the land in Georgia and married there.
